TIDBIT: arrested development

Despite its downward spiral in the ratings, “Lost” still plans to end by its sixth season in 2010. After the writers’ strike, though, a cut down in episodes means the next two seasons will have an extra episode each, marking the count up from 16 to 17. Finally, some good news post-strike .

REVIEW: Colin Meloy; Sings Live

Colin Meloy’s meek voice greeted me modestly with a quick hello as we embarked on a journey through the indie singer/songwriter’s live solo album.

After the first song I realized he would be playing the entire set with an acoustic guitar and a slight lisp . I think I literally let out a groan of disappointment.

REVIEW: Made of Honor

“Made of Honor” stars Patrick Dempsey as Tom Bailey in a male version of “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” Tom Bailey is a womanizer with money who does not understand the idea of a monogamous relationship or marriage. The only real thing in his life is his relationship with his best friend, Hannah.

REVIEW: Grand Theft Auto IV

“Grand Theft Auto IV” adds drama to its violence. No longer is “Grand Theft Auto” just a game about shooting and killing.

The game focuses on main character Niko Bellic. Niko wants to leave his troubled past, so he travels to Liberty City wanting to seek the American dream, only to witness it is not all it is cracked up to be.

REVIEW: Grey’s Anatomy

“Grey’s Anatomy” was one of the top-watched shows last season, but this season has seen sagging ratings and repetitive story lines. The fourth season started slowly and lacked any eye catching twists, but things have started to change.

Thursday’s episode was entertaining and hilarious.

REVIEW: Ax Men

The History Channel’s hit-show “Ax Men” shows the harsh and unruly world of four Oregon-based lumber crews. They must go where machines cannot and face the dangers of winter in this 13-part series.

While the show gives a lot of insight into the history of logging and gives viewers a look at the day-to-day life of an ax man, it ends up looking like nothing more than a drama show on Fox or MTV.

As Jeph Howard walks along the back wall of the Bren Events Center on the University of California, Irvine campus, he stopped in his tracks after stepping on some ice plant.

“Listen to this,” he said, as he ground more of the plant into the sidewalk with his shoe.

the Q&A of the day: Midnight Movies singer Gena Oliver

Midnight Movies creates a sound that mixes the dark undercurrent of the LA underground with a classic psychedelic sound that pays homage to some of their legendary influences. The group consists of Larry Schmel on guitar, Sandra Vu on the drums, Ryan Wood on the keyboard and Gena Oliver on vocals.
