Twice a year, the college semester ends and it is often a time of great stress for Cal State Fullerton students. From preparing for final examinations, to finding new places to live to even finding new roommates, the Titan faithful are exhausted and overwhelmed on a daily basis. On top of all of these worries, many students partake in one task that often brings more stress than all of these other tasks combined; Moving.

At the core of the moving stress is finding a legitimate moving company to help with the relocation. Students often hear horror stories from friends and family about their moving experiences and as such are quite skeptical. The good news is that Web provides unlimited resources from which to gather information, read customer reviews and attain price quotes.  In fact, the California Public Utilities Commission Web site (http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/puc/transportation/movers.htm) provides a list of consumer advisories and lists out which moving companies have permits in the state of California.

Other resources for finding moving companies include commercial Web sites, such as Service Networks. These Web sites enable Cal State Fullerton students to fill out an online quote form and receive quote requests from dozens of moving companies in and around Fullerton. Additionally, these Web sites often offer information on Van Lines and even self-storage venues, which some students are more comfortable in utilizing.

So, what else makes moving such a large undertaking? If you have as much stuff as most students do, then you can certainly understand why it involves so much time and effort. From searching for packing supplies (including boxes, tape and bubble wrap) to packing up all of your clothes, to bubble wrapping your electronics, the process seems endless.

So, what can students do to make the moving process easier? First, ask your roommates and friends for help, as many of them have finished finals and often have some free time to lend a helping hand. You would be surprised as to how many of your friends are willing to help with the right amount of encouragement (i.e. slice of pizza, music downloads). If none of your friends are available, you can seek out services like “Hire a helper”, where a professional comes to your apartment / dorm room and helps you pack up all of your belongings.

So what’s next? Take all of the information you have learned from this story and research, research, research. Check out the Web sites listed above and do your own Google searches as well, as there is a wealth of information on moving companies and the process of moving. Let’s make this upcoming semester one for the ages.
