Picture-1Everyone has an interesting story about at least one ex-girlfriend/boyfriend said Todd Favela. “That’s what make exes fun.”

Favela, a 21-year-old illustration major at Cal State Fullerton, along with Amanie Al-Faris, Kyle Cannon and Ryan Magallanes, launched a new Web site featuring stories – funny and freaky – about ex-significant others.

Co-creator Al-Faris, 22, explained the Web site as a love-gone-wrong version of FML.com or TextsFromLastNight.com. Users generate the content by telling their best, or worst, stories of love gone awry for the Web site and reader’s amusement.

“It’s more of a forum where people can read stories about other people’s psycho exes and get a laugh out of it,” Al-Faris said.

However, despite being funny, Favela did say that some of the psycho exes can indeed seem psychotic.

“We’ve had so many. There was one guy with a micro-penis that held a woman captive with an ax. I know the person who told the story personally, so it was just shocking,” Favela said.

The Web site is new. The four friends found themselves discussing ideas for a Web site over lunch when Favela brought up the idea of having a “psycho ex” section. Because of all the excitement it stirred within the group, the focus was turned solely to psycho exes and MyPsychoEx.net was born almost two months ago.

The open forum Web site has generated approximately 40 posts and is still trying to reach out to a larger audience.

“I haven’t heard of it until now, but it sounds like a great concept,” said Bri Kendrick, a 23-year-old Fullerton resident and student at Cal State Northridge.

Favela realizes that the site is still new and will eventually garner more attention was a college-aged demographic given time.

“The site just went up … We’re babies to the Internet world hoping to grow up quick. We were in beta stage the entire summer. It was just recently that we decided to launch it because of school starting up,” Favela said.

He explained the structure of the Web site’s operations.

“Amanie brought me on board because I’m a viral Web site and marketing geek,” Favela said. “Ryan really grounded us in saying that exes would be the best idea to run with. Kyle does the coding and did so for the entire summer.”

The Web site is funded only by the four students, but they are looking to become large enough to gain advertisement revenue.

“As far as advertising, we’ve been posting in forums and spreading the site through word of mouth. Just recently I’ve been doing some press to promote the site so we can get even better stories to share with people,” Favela said.

There are other plans for the future of the Web site including the implementation of an iPhone application, a Twitter account and links to other Web sites.

Favela said there are also many unpublished stories that have failed to be taken seriously. “I think the only problem we might face is credibility. That will be hard to sort out since some things just aren’t believable.”

Even if some of the stories do seem far-fetched, it still makes for an interesting read. After all, who doesn’t love a story that begins with, “so I was seein’ this girl/guy …”
