The Cal State Fullerton women’s soccer team came away with a thrilling victory Friday night against the visiting Aggies of UC Davis at Titan Stadium.

With 10 seconds left in the match, redshirt junior forward Geminesse Martinez took a corner kick from the left side and put the ball in the box.

Sophomore forward Stacey Fox slid and put the ball into the upper right corner of the net, giving no possibility for Aggies goalkeeper Sarah Peters from preventing the ball from going into the net.

“It felt really good to score, (and I was) excited to get one in the net after numerous opportunities to score,” Fox said.

Fox also felt that one thing the team needs to keep in mind is the game on Sunday and focusing on preparing against Pacific.

This was Fox’s second game-winning goal and her third goal overall of the season.

In the first half of the match, the Titans had numerous scoring chances but were unable to convert on them.

Eight minutes into the game, the Titans had a direct free kick about 25 yards out redshirt junior defender Tamara Dewey took the direct free kick and put the ball in the box where Fox headed it towards the net but it went straight into Peters’ hands.

Another opportunity the Titans weren’t able to capitalize on was in the 22nd minute when redshirt junior midfielder Danielle Bitonti beat Peters to a ball before it reached the end line and took a shot that hit the inside of the left post and came out.

The closest opportunity for the Aggies was in the 31st minute on a corner kick from the left side when Aggies’ sophomore midfielder Rachel Kahn headed the ball just wide of the net. A goal was taken away from the Aggies in the 39th minute when they were called offsides.

The first half ended in a scoreless tie for both teams, but the Titans were the aggressor beating the Aggies to the ball and were trying to capitalize on mistakes to try take a lead into the half.

The Titans out shot the Aggies 7-3 in the first half.

In the second half, the Aggies failed to score on a free kick when freshman defender Katie Webb took it and shot it just over the crossbar.

With about 30 seconds left, Bitonti unleashed a curling shot outside the 18 yard box that was saved by Peters, who sent it and set up a corner kick and the last second scoring opportunity for the Titans.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan-Michelle Santos had a strong performance in goal with fives saves on the game.

“I think we played really well, we played aggressive the whole game,” Santos said.

Santos also felt that there was a lot of enthusiasm in the front line.

Titan Head Coach Demian Brown felt that the team was consistent the whole game.

“Our Achilles tendon this season is the inability to put teams away,” Brown said. “We played a hard fought game and something were trying to work on is putting the ball in the net and train hard.
