It is the second week of school and it is about time I broke loose and offered everyone my take on the sports world.

Let me start off by saying that Denver, Colorado is an amazing sports town.

I made the trip to the Mile High City with a few of friends to witness my beloved Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field Thursday afternoon.

With little over 10 minutes of sleep, enduring a two-hour flight out of Los Angeles International Airport, and five large cans of Coors Light at an elevation of roughly 5,280 feet above sea level I’m surprised to say I managed to stay functional throughout the course of the entire day.

I’ll admit, there was a point where I thought I wasn’t going to make it, as I found myself unable to get my hands on some sort of energy drink. After about five minutes of searching, I gave in and thought I might as well just stick with beer and hope for the best.

Matt Kemp hit a two-run bomb and the Dodgers won, so I definitely couldn’t complain, especially with the seats we had. Where else can you find $50, front row seats right behind the Dodger dugout? The view from our seats of Coors Field was simply gorgeous.

There’s no way I’m getting seats like that at Dodger Stadium. Not ever.

Manny Ramirez was so close, I may have been able to pluck one of his locks.

Now I know we have the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim right down the 57-freeway and it is hard to argue against the new Yankee Stadium, or Fenway Park in Boston. Coors Field, however, has it all when it comes to looks.

Although the ballpark is not as big as some of its competitors in Major League Baseball, it is still a thing of beauty and has to be at the top when it comes to fan friendly experiences.

Having the chance to interact with the blue crew coming in from the field, I felt like a kid again attending my first baseball game. I constantly yelled out to James Loney, Orlando Hudson, Kemp and the infamous Manny Ramirez with hopes of getting them to pose for a picture.

My only true success was getting third base coach Larry Bowa to mad dog me as he pointed for a picture. Manny pointed too, but then I realized he was talking to Casey Blake.

We almost came home with an awesome souvenir as well. However, my friend April disappointingly let the ball from Loney roll right by her, due to her belief that the dugout would cave in if she put any weight on it.

The only bad thing I can say about the trip to Coors Field would definitely have to be Rockies fans attempt at the wave, and their unwillingness to wear team colors. Come on Rockies fans, the Denver Broncos across Interstate 25 know how to hold it down. No excuses.

Then again, purple never became the new pink, so it’s not hard to blame them.

Speaking of the Broncos, I managed to take a tour of Invesco Field, and was totally blown away with the architecture, and of course, their press rooms. Their freezer full of kegs was a beautiful sight as well.

However, probably the most impressive and shocking thing I learned on the tour was how much a seat in the party suite went for.

How does $9,500 sound?

That gets you your seat and food, yet no parking permit unless there are four of you.

That is absurd, until you hear that the waiting list for season tickets is 15 years.

I would have to get in line right now just to ensure myself of having these tickets for my days as a settled down husband and father.

It could be worse though, the Green Bay Packers have a waiting list of 98 years. Good luck to those putting their name in for those. I’m sure your great great grandchildren will really enjoy them.

My other big impression from Denver has to be their sports bars.

I managed to make it onto Market Street to catch UFC 102 at Old Chicago. The fight between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Randy Couture was amazing, and definitely made my list of top five fights of all-time.

But, the experience at the bar was second to none. From the bartenders to the bar backs, from the drunk fight-fans to the more quietly interested fans, and more importantly their $2.50 pint glasses of beer, it was an awesome place to watch a fight.

Words cannot describe the look on my face at how cheap the beer was, and this was on a Saturday night, in a bar where the ladies were looking as prime as my eyes have ever seen. We have to rely on taco Tuesday and dollar beer Wednesdays to find a better deal than that out here.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop talking about my wonderful experience in the Mile High City. Maybe its best if certain things are left unsaid.

I will add that once my schooling is finished here at Cal State Fullerton, I will likely be applying for grad school out near the Rocky Mountains.

I’ll see you soon, Denver.

Besides the fact that your copy desk left an editing suggestion in the copy that made it to the web, I liked your piece.

I live in Denver, grew up here, and appreciate the way you described our town. I wish the Dodgers wouldn’t have bombed the Rockies, but what can you do?

    Come back sometime.

I am a CSUF Alumna and currently live in Denver. I was at Coors Field the same day you were, and coincidentally was at Old Chicago’s for the fight, as well. Small world!

The only thing Denver lacks is CSUF fans. I miss being able to holler for my Titans!!!
