Close to 40 students ’sat in’ Pollak Library the night of Sept. 29 demanding to speak with an administrator or university official that could answer questions regarding how budget cuts were implemented and who decided which departments would cut how much.

They refused to leave the library until someone came to address their questions. If no one came before 9 p.m., closing time, they would remain in the library until they we’re arrested by Cal State University Fullerton Police, said a group member who refused to give his name.
Officers, Lieutenant Don Landers, Sergeant Carl Jones, and Officer Monica Bagalayos responded to the scene.
After Associate University Librarian Elizabeth Housewright came out to speak with the goup at 9:45 p.m., they left without any confronation.
The group asked Housewright questions regarding library hours of operation, budget cuts and where and to whom they could ask more questions.
Housewright told the protesters they should use the university’s open-door policy to talk to appropriate administrators about their respective concerns.

The big picture not being that students at CSUF are paying more for less of an education???
Hey CS sorry your ASI funded fashion show was interrupted.
I completely agree with you on that. We’ve been paying more for less of an education for some time now. This has been going on more recently since 2002. We’ve seen an increase in fees every year with the exception of 2005. It’s just a shame we haven’t done or said anything about it as students as a whole until now; when it’s probably too late. So we shouldn’t be pointeing fingers at ASI or CSUF administration. The root of the problem is in Sacramento. Fullerton doesn’t dictate how are fees are raised or the amount or decide the overall budget it recieves. It’s all appropriated by the State and filtered down to each of the 23 CSU’s. We are a state ran institution. That is all I am trying to point out.
Anon, grow up. You’re in college.
Yeah college. Not a fashion institute. Honestly how can you spend your time supporting such an openly wasteful use of school funds??
Look I’m not in ASI, I’m a graduate student, but I do have a pulse on ASI. I can tell you that the fashion show didn’t cost a dime. Titan Shops loan’s out the clothing for free. On a college campus such events are typical. Again, you’re looking at something very minute. Look at the bigger picture ANON, fighting over fashion shows and hot dogs isn’t going to change our situation.
anon- I’m not in ASI but i know ASI has been to Sacramento several times and to the CSU Board of Trustees meeting to lobby on the students behalf. Not to mention they fund all the clubs on campus/TSU and rec center activities/children center. But seriously, what have you done? Honestly how can you spend your time supporting such an openly misdirected information.
Academics over campus life. I’m pretty sure most students would rather graduate and have classes/professors than have fashion shows, hot dogs, 500 dollar concerts with lame bands that no one goes to see anyway. Isn’t the university about learning? You can have fun after school.
This IS a campus issue. Not just a state issue. We all would like to absolve responsibility and look to Sacramento to somehow “fix” this problem. It’s easier that way. But it’s up to ALL of us – students (including the ASI), faculty, administration, the community- to voice our concerns about these problems affecting all of us and to take a stand against putting anything above education on our campus.
I’m just saying that instead of functioning as the retail marketing slut for the Titan Store merch dept- They should be participating in student movement for accountability over our educations. I would like to read the minutes from this board of trustees meeting in Sacramento, so that we can read for ourselves the meek self-interested job our ASI clubbers did in lobbying on students behalves.
im not sure if you can see this but here is gregory washington

btw asi is a none-profit origination. they are trying to promote school spirit since it is spirit week.
please try actively researching this before you jump the gun and make assumptions
Please note that Pollak Library released a survey this afternoon, in response to student concerns regarding reduced library service hours as a result of budget cuts.
We invite all students to take the survey, and let your voice be heard. The survey closes at 5:00pm on Tuesday, October 6th. We will share our findings after the library is closed.
Survey: http://libphp2006.fullerton.edu/wordpress/do-the-current-library-hours-meet-your-needs-tell-us-how-they-do-or-don%e2%80%99t/
Pollak Library will share our findings from the survey after the survey (not the library) is closed.
